Being proposed to is the most exciting moment of your life.  Every story is as unique as each couple.  From surprise proposals, to planned out events… it is definitely a moment to cherish!

e2a40-029a1191Announce your engagement to your family and friends!  You can also go out and celebrate this exciting moment!  If you know now, you can start assembling your wedding party.  Take a moment to decide who you want to assist you and stand up with you, and take them out and ask them to share in your special day.

Decide on a date and your budget.  It is important to remember to plan within your means.  Do not rely on presentation, gifts, or your parents paying.  Talk it over with all parties involved, and see where you are comfortable.  You don’t want to start your new life in debt!

Book your ceremony Without your ceremony there would be no wedding to celebrate.  If you are getting married in a church, there could be classes to take, or a waiting period.  Some days are off limits for weddings too.  Talk with your priest/pastor/marriage commissioner to select a date you desire, or a few dates that would work for you.

Visit and choose your venue.  Most reception venues have a 1 – 2 year waiting list.  Keep this in mind when you are picking your date and location.  You have to ensure you can have your ceremony on the same date as the reception (unless you can do both reception and ceremony at the same site.

All dressed up Picking your gown can be a stressful time.  You want to look your best and feel gorgeous in your gown.  All eyes will be on you as you walk down the aisle and be the focal point of most photos.  Your gown sets the theme, look and feel of your big day.  It can take up to 8 months to order your gown in.  So keep that in mind when you visit bridal salons.  Make sure you ask the associate helping you.

Check back next month as I continue to discuss what to do after you get engaged!  Make sure to check out my website at or contact me at to schedule a complimentary initial meeting.
